B1 B2 Visas

Overview

Generally, a foreign citizen wishing to enter the US must obtain a visa (a non-immigrant visa). Visitor visas are categorized into two categories :B-1 for temporary business stay; B-2 for tourism  

B-1

You can apply for this visa if you are travelling for the following reasons.

  • Consult with business associates
  • Attend a scientific, educational, professional, or business convention or conference
  • Settle an estate
  • Negotiate a contract

B-2

You can apply for this visa if you are travelling for the following reasons:

  • Tourism
  • Vacation (holiday)
  • Visit with friends or relatives
  • Medical Treatment
  • Participation in social events hosted by fraternal, social, or service organizations
  • Participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests, if not being paid for participating
  • Enrolment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree (for participating

How to Apply:

There are several steps involved in the application process

  • Complete the Online Visa Application
  • Online Non-immigrant Visa Application, Form DS 160(Complete the application form and print the application confirmation page and bring it to the interview
  • Photo – Upload your Photo while completing the online Form DS – 160. Your photo must be in the format explained in the Photograph Requirements.

Schedule an Interview

You should schedule an appointment for your visa interview at the interview at the US Embassy or Consulate in the country you live. Wait times for interview may vary by location.

Pay the Fees

Gather the required Documentation

Gather the following documents and prepare for the interview

  • Passport – Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your period of stay.
  • Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form-DS160 confirmation page
  • Application Fee Payment Receipt
  • Photo- Carry your photo as per the required format in case you need one.

Additional Documents

Additional documents may be asked for if you are qualified. These may include

  • The purpose of your trip
  • Your intent to depart the US after your trip
  • Your ability to pay for all the costs
  • Employment details
  • Business details
  • Family ties
